The European Influenza Surveillance Scheme (EISS) presents virological and clinical data concerning influenza activity in 19 European countries by 22 networks. Updates are provided every friday at 12:00 CET.
Currently influenza activity is generally declining in Europe. In week 15 no influenza activity was reported in Poland and Portugal. Local activity was observed in France, Lithuania, Slovac Republic and Romania and sporadic activity was announced by the other 12 reporting networks.
The intensity of clinical activity was medium in 2 and low in 16 networks in week 14/2003.
Influenza A viruses were dominating in 8 and influenza B in 2 networks. The subtype H3N2 was dominating in Germany and Switzerland, while the H1N1 subtype wast he dominant one in Spain.
